The voluminous new building nestles harmoniously with its rear side against the hilly Weidwald and reflects the alpine terrain and the Säntis with its Schwägalpstein front facade. The traditions and customs of the Appenzell region were interpreted in a modern way not only in the choice of materials, from larch wood for the building façade and oak for the doors, windows, parquet flooring and furniture, to the shredded Schwägalpstein from the excavation for the mixture of a special fair-faced concrete and the sheet metal for the flat pitched gable roof, but also in many small details inside the building. Finally, the sustainability of the construction is also evident in the energy generation via the extraction and recovery of geothermal energy used.A hotel for allWith the new "Säntis - das Hotel", Säntis-Schwebebahn AG not only wants to ensure the continued existence of the company as a day trip destination, but also to create new values in the area of overnight tourism and seminars. Guests are also treated to culinary delights in true Appenzell style: local chefs conjure up fine, modern interpretations of traditional dishes using products from the region. A personal relationship is cultivated with all suppliers, which goes so far that guests even know the names of the cows from which the milk and dairy products come.
