Polls in podcasts: Spotify tests "Polls"

Music streaming platform Spotify is currently testing polls within podcasts with its "Polls" feature. The new application is designed to enable presenters to let their audience vote live on various topics. They have complete control over the questions they want to ask their listeners.

"Users can communicate directly with their favorite presenters. For example, they can suggest who should be the next guest on the podcast or participate directly in a discussion. Both the presenters and the listeners can follow the answers in real time, which opens up a completely new way of interaction," Spotify says.

Polls are a popular tool on many social media platforms. For example, Instagram has had a similar application since 2018. Unlike the Facebook subsidiary, Spotify polls are supposed to be completely anonymous. Only active participants in the polls can also see the results.

Soon available for all users

According to Spotify, about 90 percent of all users on both Android and iOS can participate in the polls at the moment, but the tests are only taking place for a few English-language podcasts. Soon, polls should be available to all users. It is still unclear whether all podcasts will be allowed to use the tool or only those that are in partnership with Spotify. (pte)
