A first round of funding went to 50 newsrooms in the U.S. and Canada. The remaining funds are to go to the media companies via marketing expenses. The core of the deal is for Facebook to buy ad space from them, US broadcaster NBC reported.

Facebook had already announced in early 2019 that it would support regional media with $300 million over a three-year period. (SDA)
