Revenue rose by 49 percent to 8.03 billion dollars, as Facebook announced after the US stock exchange closed on Wednesday. The revenue is almost entirely attributable to advertising income, 85 percent of which Facebook now generates from advertising on smartphones and tablets. Charges for ads on cell phones have also made the tills of Internet giant Google ring.

Facebook has gained 80 million new users in the past three months and now has 1.94 billion monthly active members. Around 1.28 billion users recently accessed the platform on a daily basis. Facebook has recently increased its focus on video content - and also on advertising in this environment. The photo platform Instagram is also considered a growth driver. Because Facebook recently hit the headlines due to the distribution of murder videos, the company now wants to take action against violent films with 3,000 more employees. (SDA)
