Used designer bags and second-hand luxury fashion are popular. Jelmoli is jumping on the bandwagon and launching a vintage store in Zurich.

Like NZZ on Sunday reports, the business with used articles of luxury brands of the fashion industry is booming. Reason: The new parts are often immediately out of stock, the waiting lists are long - the prices for used products have exploded in recent years. In other words: You often pay more for used than for new. And: sales of used premium and luxury fashion are expected to double by 2023. Vintage is one of the few areas of fashion with rising sales, say Zalando and Jelmoli in unison.

This has prompted the department store Jelmoli to open a pop-up store in the Bahnhofstrasse premises together with the luxury boutique Reawake, a Zurich-based startup specializing in the resale of luxury fashion. This will operate for two months - if the numbers are right, it will remain permanently. Reawake previously operated a store in Zurich and sold items via Instagram.

The store also offers customers the opportunity to sell their own pieces after they have been checked for authenticity and condition. Reawake keeps 50 percent of the amount generated for itself in the event of a sale. They expect demand to be high in both directions: Buying and selling, says Jelmoli GL member Marc Huber to the NZZ on Sunday.
