A day without Internet and smartphone - December 15 is offline day."Always on" is the daily bread for social media experts Tom Brühwiler and Kevin Kyburz. They pick up their smartphones while having their morning coffee, check their e-mails, send status messages on Twitter and read their Facebook streams. During the day, they chat and Google, consume news and tweet for the umpteenth time. And the two are also active in the evenings: The smartphone is used as a second screen in front of the SwisscomTV and communication on Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms continues as a matter of course.A day without the Internet. Is that still possible? On December 15, 2013, the two social media experts issued the first call to turn off the data function of their smartphones and the Internet router at home for 24 hours. Last year, around 300 registered participants joined the two and gave up everything that comes to them via an Internet connection. This meant not only no Internet, but also, for example, giving up IP-supported television such as SwisscomTV or the Wilmaa box. After all, Tom and Kevin are themselves on the Internet every day - both professionally and privately. Rather, they are calling for a more conscious approach to the Internet.#offlineDay is intended to show the importance that the Internet has in our daily lives today - and often takes over our lives completely. In 2014, the #offlineDay will be even more difficult...This year the challenge for #offlineDay will be a bit more difficult, because this year the 15th of December falls on a Monday. And it will again be without Internet, because then the cell phone data function and the Internet router will again be deactivated for 24 hours. How the online renunciation feels, where the difficulties lay, and whether the #offlineDay even leads to the participants wanting to be offline more in the future, they will write down on their social media channels - and call on them to do the same. Whether via blog, Facebook, Twitter or any other medium. But not on December 15, 2014, of course, because that's #offlineDay.
