With the new wireless network from upc cablecom, you can surf outside.As the first telecommunications provider in Switzerland, upc cablecom enables its 11,000 Internet customers in the city of St. Gallen to surf for free with Wi-Free. The principle: The WLAN modems of upc cablecom's Internet customers are supplemented with Wi-Free. Wi-Free works via a second, wireless network over the existing WLAN modems. The separate network was previously inactive and is now activated by a software update. The Wi-Free network has its own speed, which is provided in addition. This means that the subscribed speeds for the customers' private WLAN are not affected. With the amount of data offered via Wi-Free, common applications such as surfing the Internet can be used on the move without restrictions.Privacy guaranteedWi-Free operates separately and independently from the private WLAN. Wi-Free users cannot access the owner's private WLAN at any time. Privacy and data protection are fully guaranteed. Furthermore, with the connection of the second network, there are no additional emissions from the transmission power of the modems.Everyone is part of the Wi-Free communityAll 11,000 upc cablecom Internet customers in the city of St. Gallen can use Wi-Free during the pilot phase. This applies to customers with an Internet combination offer as well as to those who only have an Internet subscription from upc cablecom. To use the service, they must register online in the My UPC customer portal. Customers in the city of St. Gallen will be informed about Wi-Free by letter as early as today. Following the Swiss pilot project in St. Gallen, the plan is to roll out Wi-Free throughout upc cablecom's entire coverage area. As of September 30, 2013, a total of 647,400 customers had an Internet subscription from upc cablecom.Use also possible abroadupc cablecom is one of the first Liberty Global country companies to introduce Wi-Free. Wi-Free users will be able to use the service in other countries in Europe. Sister company Telenet in Belgium has also launched a similar service.
