Accessible and touching: Xeit redesigns B-bern.ch for the B

Xeit has successfully completed the relaunch of the B-bern.ch website of the Bern Center for the Blind and Disabled (Das B). The focus was on accessibility, especially for visually impaired people, as well as emotionality.

B, the competence center for blind, visually impaired and multiply disabled people in the Bern region, offers a variety of services - including visual and social counseling as well as adapted work and training positions. On the website B-bern.ch these services are now more clearly structured and more accessible for different target groups.

Focus on accessibility

Special attention was paid to on accessibility according to WCAG 2.2so that the website is accessible to all users. With the help of extensive testing with residents and staff at B and Xeit's expertise, features such as simple language, adjustable font sizes and read-aloud plugins were implemented. A high contrast mode further improves accessibility, especially for visually impaired people. For blind people, the website has been optimized for screen readers.

The new website design concept focuses on emotional storytelling to strengthen B's identity as a leading competence center and attractive employer. Using a flexible WordPress block editor, a user-friendly structure was created to present the content in a target group-oriented way.

Optimized lead generation and user experience

In addition, the website was optimized for lead generation, which led to an increase in applications and requests for quotations immediately after the go-live. New ways of generating donations through online fundraising were also integrated. The website has been extensively optimized for search engine discoverability and places a strong focus on user experience, including fast loading times. An integrated, accessible appointment booking system for consultations was also implemented.
