Gaming and fashion are metaverse pioneers

According to a study by the German Digital Industry Association (BVDW), one in three companies wants to invest in metaverse projects - with the gaming industry leading the way. But the fashion industry is also making headway in this regard. Companies must now learn from the gaming industry in order to bring their knowledge of the metaverse up to date.

"While virtual goods have been present in gaming for years and are also being monetized to some extent, dematerialization of fashion in the consumer sector was unthinkable just a few years ago. In the meantime, this has become a megatrend. This dematerialization will shape the entire fashion business," says Nico Wohlgemuth, Vice Chairman of the Metaverse department at BVDW.

According to the study, 82 percent of respondents believe that the fashion industry will benefit most from the Metaverse. For the media and entertainment industry, the agreement of the respondents was 74 percent. The gaming sector in particular exemplifies what the Metaverse is all about, it says. It is interactive, decentralized and immersive, it says.

Marketing & PR Influence

The experts surveyed also see opportunities for the automotive sector and fast-moving consumer goods, but to a much lesser extent. Across all industries, the effects will be felt by the individual divisions. 87 percent are convinced that the metaverse will influence marketing and PR. E-commerce follows close behind, with 71 percent of respondents.

When asked about their own investment plans for Metaverse projects, the surveyed specialists and executives from a good 14 industries provide a differentiated picture: 35 percent want to invest in such projects in the next two years. 34 percent are still undecided, 26 percent have no investment plans, and the rest are abstaining.
