IAB Switzerland announces launch of second edition of TCF

IAB Europe, in collaboration with the IAB Tech Lab, announced Wednesday the launch of the second edition of the Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF).

The TCF is a European industry tool that helps companies within the digital advertising ecosystem manage their compliance obligations under the GDPR and the e-Privacy Directive. This second version follows a twelve-month review period during which market feedback was received from all sectors of the digital advertising industry, such as publishers in particular, as well as various meetings with data protection authorities across Europe.

Rolf Auf der Maur, attorney-at-law and head of the legal department at IAB Switzerland, welcomes the TCF 2.0: "We see the broad-based agreement of the industry in Europe on version 2 of the Transparency and Consent Framework as a great success. We see it as particularly positive that the TCF now not only focuses on user consent as a justification, but also on other existing justifications under the GDPR and the Swiss Data Protection Act (such as contractual performance and overriding interests). The IAB Switzerland recommends that media, media agencies and ad tech providers in Switzerland implement TCF 2.0. It has adapted the industry recommendation issued jointly with VSM and LSA accordingly. We are convinced that the media and online advertising industry is making an important contribution to data protection in Switzerland with this self-regulation and will also bring this into the ongoing revision of the Data Protection Act."
