Admeira has also fallen victim to the global cyber attacks

A few weeks after the global attack of the Trojan "WannaCry", a cyber-attack has paralyzed dozens of companies, especially in Ukraine. Not only foreign companies are affected, but also Admeira. The Swiss advertising joint venture confirmed this to Werbewoche.

According to initial findings, it was a version of the "Petya" extortion software, which has been known since last year and encrypts computers and demands a ransom. According to Swiss experts, Ukraine, Russia, England and India in particular have been victims of hacker attacks.

In response to a request from news agencies SDA and Reuters, the Swiss Reporting and Analysis Center for Information Assurance (MELANI) said on Tuesday that Swiss companies were not currently affected according to available information. There are indications that the "Petya" malware program is circulating again.

Admeira affected

However, Werbewoche has learned: Admeira, a Swiss company, has also fallen victim to the attack. Thus, the website of the advertising marketer has been unreachable for hours. "Yes, Admeira has also been hit by the global cyber attack, the Petya.A," confirmed spokeswoman Romi Hofer in response to an inquiry from Werbewoche. The company is "working flat out to analyze the situation and initiate measures."

Shortly afterwards, Admeira addressed its customers via Twitter: The playout of TV ads for SRG was guaranteed at the moment, the ads for Blick and Blick am Abend were "safe," as were all ads that would appear this week in Ringier Axel Springer Switzerland publications. "The ad servers are not affected, accordingly the online campaigns can be played out as usual."

Ukraine and WPP targeted

The attack hit Ukraine particularly hard earlier. The police had received 22 reports by the afternoon - the state-owned company Antonov, banks, the post office, an electricity network operator and at least one mobile phone provider are said to have been affected. Advisers to the Interior Ministry speak of the most serious hacker attacks in the country's history to date. The attacks are said to be carried out by Russia.

After Ukraine and Russia, the attack spread to Western Europe. In addition to Danish and French companies, WPP also reported being affected by the attacks on Tuesday. The British group of advertising service providers and media companies is the largest advertising holding company in the world, including JWT, Ogilvy, Scholz & Friends, Young & Rubicam and Grey.
