Thanks to in-house productions: Netflix surprises with strong customer growth

Netflix remains on course for growth. Thanks to attractive in-house productions, the online video store significantly increased its customer base and revenue in the final quarter.

According to the US company, it gained 7.1 million subscribers worldwide. Analysts had predicted just 5.2 million. Despite a price increase, the company attracted new viewers with series such as "Marvel's Luke Cage" and "The Crown". Revenue shot up by 35.9 percent to 2.48 billion dollars. Netflix's quarterly report sent investors into euphoria: the share price jumped by eight percent in after-hours trading on Wednesday evening. The online video store, which competes with Amazon and Hulu, is investing heavily in international expansion. It is now represented in more than 130 countries. (SDA)
