"I bims" is German "Youth Word of the Year

"I bims" is the German "Youth Word of the Year." It means "I am," the Langenscheidt publishing house announced in Munich on Friday. There were 30 words to choose from to show how the youth of today speak.

A 20-member jury had chosen the word. In a non-binding online vote, "I bims" had landed in tenth place. The front-runner was the expression "Geht fit" as a term for something that clearly goes. Around one million votes were cast this time - more than ever before, according to the publisher. Last year, "isso" was ahead as an approval or underlining of something. However, the jury decided on "Fly sein," a term from the hip-hop scene meaning: someone or something "goes off in a particular way." The choice is a promotion of the Langenscheidt publishing house and takes place this year for the tenth time. (SDA)
