Parrot places online order via Alexa at Amazon

Using his mistress' voice, a parrot made a purchase from online retailer Amazon. By imitating his owner's voice, Buddy managed to activate Amazon's digital assistant Alexa and place an order.

The order blew up when a package of gold-colored gift boxes worth ten pounds (13 francs) was delivered, according to the tabloid The Sun reported Wednesday. After Pretorius ruled out that the strange order was due to her husband or their eight-year-old son, suspicion fell on Buddy, the winged house friend.

The family has had the Alexa voice remote for four months, but only use it for music or to make to-do lists, Pretorius said. "I never used it to order anything online." But then she realized Buddy was communicating with Alexa, she said. On an evidence video posted by the Sun the five-year-old parrot can be seen squawking "Alexa. In response, the device next to him lights up blue. "Oh, hmmm, stay online, Alexa," the bird adds. As an Amazon spokesperson told the Sun said, the family from the southeast of the British capital can now return the involuntary order and get a refund. (SDA)
